In the town of Agrigento itself there's the amazing Archaeological Museum which gives you a full history of the area dating back to BC. This ancient Greek city is the most important in the world with temples and ruins that each tell their own story. Many have ruled and died here and with each new sweep, new Temples were built.
The Old Town centre is where you will find the 16th century Church of San Calogero. The nuns that were part of this order - Benedictine - were well known for making sweets from almonds and a type of semolina that was served in a small bowl.
