The main start point for viewing is the Cathedral of Santa Maria dei Fiore with its massive and famous dome designed by Giotti, the Gallery of Academia is home to Michelangelo's masterpiece - David - created from a single piece of marble. Ponte Vecchio is the place for the finest jewells with a good selection of jewellery stores and over the other side is the world of Pitti - the palace and gardens where you will find a wealth of art work, finery and gorgeous gardens to sit a while and soak up the whole atmosphere.
Piazzale Michelangelo is worth a few hours of your time and then back over the other side of the River Arno for lunch and a relaxing afternoon.
