If you are here in February then you can enjoy the traditional and famous Carnival - time to dress up in period costume and wear those beautiful masks. There's a wealth of choice in masks here and they come in three categories - Comedy Art, Fantasy or Traditional Venetian - they are all magnificent and well worth taking home as a souvenir.

The Murano glass is an age old traditional and skill - glass blowing started here in Venice and has since been copied all over the world. You can buy glorious paper weights, candy ornaments and cute miniature aquariums complete with fish and sea creatures.

Shopping is prime here so be sure to treat yourself to the best of the best in designer labels and brand names and don't fall for the fakes or copies - they're not worth it and if you get caught you'll pay a massive fine.
