Its a place of serenity and romance with a rather unique marriage with the sea. The city is built on the ocean and is filled with architectural history and fables going back centuries.
There's some rather interesting facts and attractions here - for instance this is the place where glass blowing began - there are some beautiful pieces to be collected and a museum - Museo Vetrario which is located in Palazzo Giustinian - there are some wonderful displays including Egyptian and present day designs and collections. Murano glass is famous throughout the world and you can buy everything from small beads to candies and aquariums as well as the more traditional paper weights. These make lovely gifts. Whilst shopping be sure to treat yourself to that Gondolier hat - its not necessarily the height of fashion but it is practical and you'll see lots of people wearing them.
The best of the best is to be found in the beautiful boutiques and fashion houses with every name under the sun - be sure you buy originals as there are fakes and copies around so beware.
St Marks Square is the central point and where you will find many of the attractions and of course some of the best and most exclusive coffee shops in the world. Enjoy.
