Step out and on to the Grand Canal - route number 1 to get the tour of the main buildings and sites of the city. Why not visit the lagoon islands where you can see the original art of glass blowing, visit the museum and view over 4000 pieces on display. Burano is the prettiest island - a miniature Venice with brightly coloured houses and where you can find some beautiful lace work and more art. Torcello is the romantic island to visit and where you will find the charming Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta - here you will find a mosaic showing the Universal Judgement.
In the centre be sure to visit the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation and right next door the Academy of Fine Arts - both are art lovers paradise.
Art exhibitions and parties in the street - if you visit around February time, although cold, if you wrap up warm and join the Mardi Gras Festival you really can have a most memorable time - be sure to take a mask home with you.
