This 730 sq mile province on Italy's south-west coast takes in Naples; the islands of Procida, Capri and Ischia; and some truly world-class scenery. It's part of the Campania (or Campagna) region, which simply means 'countryside'. This particular corner of it certainly does the name justice, and then some. From its glorious wide bays to its green mountains (with the occasional volcano in between) the province has a hugely varied landscape for its size. Wherever you go here, you'll also be in a place rich with history - from the Plazzo Reale in Naples, to the huge amphitheatre in Pozzuoli, and of course Pompeii, the city that has literally risen from the flames. As long as you give yourself enough time, seeing it all shouldn't be a problem; now it's just up to you which part to stay in! You can choose the well-known Sorrento, the quieter Sant'Agnello, or even stay right in the foothills of Vesuvius in Torre del Greco! The province also takes in the famous Costiera Amalfitana (Amalfi Coast) - its expansive beaches, sheer cliffs and crystal-blue waters stretching around its southern tip. Don't forget though, that the borders aren't confined to the mainland, but stretch out to into the Gulf of Naples to include the heavenly Neapolitan Islands.
