Vaporetto - Venice Water Bus - Public TransportationThe most common and inexpensive method of traveling down the Grand Canal is by Vaporetto. Like land buses, these water buses are numerous and stop frequently. However, also like regular buses, however, they tend get crowded, especially at rush hour. You get onto the buses at a dock. There will be a poster / sign at each dock that will tell you graphically, where each boat goes to and stops along the way. They do take some time to understand, but once you do understand them these are useful. Vaporetto Tickets - Travel Cards or Week Long Passes are Best ValueTickets for Vaporettos should be bought before you get on board. They can usually be purchased at the dock. You can also get these from many authorised vendors. Look for the ACTV logo. Only a few of the larger boats sell tickets on board. There is a fine for being on board without a ticket. Inform ACTV staff immediately if you find yourself in this situation, which may mean you do not get fined. Vaporetto's are available from Venice airport. They are a cheap way to get from the airport to your hotel. These are usually very crowded, so do be prepared. They can also be quite hard work to get onto and off with all your luggage. This method of getting to your hotel from the airport is not recommenced for the elderly or disabled without assistance. Rather than pay for the distance you travel, with Vaporettos you pay for the time you'll need the bus instead. Essentially, the longer your stay and the more you want to use the Vaporettos the better deal you're likely to get. Ticket prices ranging from one hour to seventy-two hours. Also available are week long passes or Travel Cards which are the best value for money available. |
