Some super shopping to be found in the nearby Strada Nuova - be sure to choose some Murano glass - there are some beautiful designs, beads, pendants, jewells and ornaments. There's something for everyone with leather ware, famous masks - choose from three categories - Comedy, Fantasy or the Traditional range. If you are here in February then you can join in the Mardi Gras - everyone dresses up and wears the famous masks.
The Mercerie is the most famous street for shopping and connects to St Mark's Square - this is a hub of activity and wonderfully priced coffee shops - just one is a treat.
Closer to home there are a number of interesting places to visit in the Jewish Quarter with 5 synagogues - the Canton, German, Italian, Levantine and Spanish. The whole are is surrounded by tall buildings with some having up to 8 floors. This is the first Jewish Quarter to be set up in Europe and dates back to 1516.
Evenings in fine restaurants tasting the wonderful Venetian dishes - Polenta, Soppressa and toasted breads are just a few of the delicacies - enjoy with wine and good company!
