This is one of the most famous of the walled hill towns of Tuscany. San Gimignano dello Belle Torri to give it its full and correct name, is well known for a number of reasons. The Torri is the towns main feature and very recognisable from any distance. There once was proported to be over 70 of these towers, which, in there day were a testament to the wealth of the town. There are now 14 that still stand within the walls and the largest of these has a bell tower that is well worth climbing to have a look at. If you can time it so that you are up there as the clock strikes the hour it will give you and your guests something wonderful to remember along with the splendidly breathtaking views over the town. Its fabulous wine Vernaccia di San Gimignano is another memorable experience that you can in fact take home with you as well.
